SAM HALN

Sam joined AALA in 2020 with the aim of helping Asian-Australian lawyers advance in their career and promote cultural diversity within the legal profession.

Sam is a generalist lawyer with particular strengths in commercial transactions (especially ICT and manufacturing), strata schemes management, industrial relations, and appellate migration law matters. Prior to commencing his legal career, he previously held successful roles in operations management and data analytics in large corporations.

When Sam was admitted as a lawyer in 2013, he quickly recognised the vast disparity between the proportion of Asian-Australian lawyers in the lower ranks of the legal profession versus the proportion in major leadership and management roles. He believes that society would benefit from the broader range of lived experiences that Asian-Australians can bring to the table, and that this requires advocacy and guidance to help raise each other and the next generation to positions of leadership.

The Asian Australian Lawyers Association (AALA) offers our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the true and traditional owners and custodians of the lands we gather on to live, work and learn.

AALA acknowledges the past and continuing trauma caused by mistreatment and displacement. AALA celebrates and shares in the respect for elders, land and community and continues to advocate for intersectional diversity and the empowerment of all first nations peoples worldwide.
