QLD Branch Committee Member
DORA KO
With over 15 years of exclusive experience in family law, Dora offers a unique blend of legal insight, deep empathy and cultural understanding at the mediation table.
She began her career in top-tier boutique family law firms in Brisbane, where she built specialist expertise in high-conflict parenting matters and complex property disputes. In 2018, she transitioned to the community legal sector to provide legal assistance and support to vulnerable clients including those experiencing serious family violence or other risk factors.
From 2022 to 2025, Dora served as a Judicial Registrar of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. In this role, she facilitated a significant number of court-based mediations, case managed property/financial cases, as well as complex parenting cases involving serious risk issues such as family violence, trauma and substance use.
Her time in the court sharpened her ability to distil legal issues quickly, reduce conflict and support early resolution. She now brings this depth of experience to her private mediation practice by helping families reach practical, sustainable outcomes without the stress and cost of litigation.
Dora is a nationally accredited Mediator, Parenting Coordinator and registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Family Dispute Resolution (awarded first in class) as well as a degree in Psychology. Her practice is grounded in trauma-informed, culturally sensitive principles and informed by real-world courtroom experience.
Dora is fluent in Chinese - Mandarin and Cantonese, and conversational in Japanese. With strong cross-cultural communication skills and lived cultural insight, she is well-placed to support clients from diverse backgrounds and communities across Australia.
