GILLIAN WOON

Gillian is Special Counsel in the IPTech practice group of Baker McKenzie and is an active member of the firm’s BakerDNA cultural diversity sub-committee.

Gillian advises clients on brand strategy, trade mark clearances and registration and manages global trade mark portfolios on behalf of her clients such as a US based multinational food production corporation. She also represents clients in trade mark opposition proceedings and advises in relation to corporate transactional due diligence projects.

Gillian is responsible for the Australian trade marks of a global FMCG corporation which owns one of the world's largest trade mark portfolios, a US corporation with quick service restaurant brands known across the globe, a world leader enterprise software company, a US corporation owning a portfolio of prestige and well known cosmetics and beauty care brands, a US based multinational entertainment conglomerate and a Brazilian global personal care cosmetics corporation.

Gillian is the Vice President of the Trans-Tasman National committee of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ). She was named as a Next Generation Lawyer in the 2019 Legal Asia Pacific rankings for Australian IP lawyers and is recognised in Best Lawyers Australia for IP.

Having migrated from Singapore and having to re-qualify in order to practise as a lawyer in Australia, with a young family at the time, Gillian is keenly aware of the challenges encountered as a result of intersectionality and is passionate about helping those wanting to fulfill their potential and be recognised as full members of the Australian community.
