QLD Branch Deputy Vice President

JANE KAM

Jane is legal counsel at VALD. She has enjoyed a varied career including working in private practice, in house legal as well as in government (at both at the State and Commonwealth level). She has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland and has been admitted into practice since 2014.

Having completed primary school in Hong Kong at a local school where Chinese was the medium of instruction, Jane can write, speak and read in Chinese (traditional script and simplified script).

Jane has a passion for diversity within the legal profession as she believes that aside from technical legal skills, Asian Australian lawyers’ innate understanding of the nuances and subtleties arising from cultural differences can make a true difference to the quality of legal representation provided to a client. She wishes to support the AALA committee to become a platform for Asian Australian law students and young professionals in navigating their professional career paths and developing friendships.

Outside of work, Jane enjoys cycling, hiking and travelling. She is a volunteer lawyer at the evening advice clinic at Caxton Legal Centre.
